The Operational Risk Manager at Lakeland Bank is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining an effective enterprise-wide operational risk management program, including policies, processes, standards and reporting. Primary duties include developing or enhancing various elements of Lakeland Bank’s enterprise risk management program, including risk and control assessments, issue management, operational loss incidents, key risk and key performance indicators, scenario analysis, and risk reporting and analytics. This position will oversee third-party (vendor) risk management, support the Chief Risk Officer in oversight and reporting of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program, and assist in the implementation of projects and other activities related to the Bank’s ERM Program.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an effective operational risk management program, including protocols to define risk ownership and oversight responsibilities in support of the Bank’s “Three Lines of Defense” model.
  • Design a uniform methodology and common taxonomy for operational areas throughout the Bank to perform risk and control assessments.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of operational policies and procedures across the Bank, and ensure such policies and procedures have been implemented and are being maintained.
  • Serve as a liaison to and resource for managers in the first line of defense that are responsible for business unit risk assessment and control activities, including consulting with business units on control testing plans and outcomes analysis.
  • Develop and conduct training and awareness activities to ensure operational risk management responsibilities are socialized throughout the Bank.
  • Ensure that issues are self-identified by business units, reported and remediated in an effective and timely manner.
  • Conduct analysis of operational incidents and identified control deficiencies, including root cause analysis, and perform tracking and validation of remediation activities.
  • Support the development or enhancement of key risk and key performance metrics and related ongoing monitoring and reporting of such metrics.
  • Participate in scenario analysis and risk appetite setting to ensure that business unit specific risks are identified and addressed.
  • Develop monthly and quarterly operational risk reporting and analytics for use by business units, senior management and the Board.
  • Oversee the Bank’s third party (vendor) risk management program, including due diligence and risk assessments, periodic reviews, service organization control reviews and implementation of associated user entity controls, service level agreement monitoring, and management reporting.
  • Support the Chief Risk Officer in oversight and reporting of the Bank’s ERM Program, including enhancing the Bank’s ERM Program Policy and Risk Appetite Statement and preparing reports for the Bank’s management and Board risk committees.
  • Assist with special projects, including initiatives related to technology and automation (e.g., governance, risk and compliance systems or tools), and perform other related duties as required or assigned.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in an area such as Business, Accounting or Finance
  • 10 years' experience in enterprise risk, operational risk or compliance in the financial services industry
  • 3+ years’ experience in supervising staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively interact with associates at all levels
  • Advanced Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, ever changing environment
  • Must be bondable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business, Accounting or Finance related postgraduate degree
  • Professional certification in enterprise or operational risk management (e.g., Certified Enterprise Risk Professional, Certified Community Bank Risk Specialist, etc.)
  • Experience working with and/or implementing GRC (governance, risk and compliance) systems
